Diego García Island in the Indian Ocean is fundamental territory in the geostrategic interests of the United States, the base installed on this island has immediate availability of troops, aircraft and military ships. The Indian Ocean is of great geostrategic importance, because the world's most important shipping and trade routes pass through its waters. Primary products -raw materials- and energy-related goods -Oil and Gas- are transported on these routes. The Indian Ocean waters are an essential circulation route for hydrocarbons from the Persian Gulf to reach Asian and European markets. The transcendental role that the Indian Ocean has in the global exchange of goods motivates the United States to monitor its waters for the benefit of its global interests and promotes maritime dominance, controlling traffic and naval transit that is permanently mobilized.
